My new weather station is up and running! Now I can tell exactly what the weather is up here on the top of my hill which is always different than what’s reported in town. The sensor unit is temporarily mounted until I find the right spot, which I think I have and will mount it up higher to clear the shrubs.

I’m reminded of an old Peter, Paul & Mary song, “Where Have All the Flowers Gone?” in my dismay at the lack of seed catalogs in my mailbox. By this time I usually have a whole stack of all the best and wonderful seed and perennial catalogs for spring, but I only have three rather small and insignificant ones. Are they just late? Are they not coming?

I am addicted to magazines and catalogs, but none so much as seed catalogs. When January rolls around and the white barrenness of winter is everywhere, these gloriously glossy pages spring to life in a dazzling array of color and form as an indicator that soon the green world will awaken from its slumber. As the new catalogs arrive they are saved in a big pile for New Year’s Day.
